20 MARZO: EQUINOZIO DI PRIMAVERA AL CASTELLO DELLA PIETRA E ALLA FOCE DEL BELÌCE
(guide: Eduardo Di Trapani-Calogero Muscarella)
Dopo un lungo e freddo inverno che ci ha obbligato tante volte a rimanere tra le quattro mura domestiche, Silene vuole celebrare l’equinozio di primavera trascorrendo una giornata in the warm and cozy south-western Sicily to explore the Stone Castle, a site of exceptional and rare beauty that recalls the caves Iblean and then entertain you with a rustic lunch in organic produce extremely close to the coast of Portopalo Memphis (Ag).
The Stone Castle , deep and narrow gorge cut by a small tributary in the final stretch of the Belize River, is unique in the hilly southwestern Sicily. In the vastness of olive groves and vineyards that wisely follows towards the sea, interrupted only by the gentle slopes and wide valley of Belice, Castello della Pietra disrupts the harmony of that regular and sometimes monotonous landscape with its steep limestone cliffs. Because of its inaccessibility to narrow the place has been spared from agricultural and human settlements and huge surprises in store for us: first of all the explosiveness of his fecund vegetation that presents with a very rich biodiversity. The small stream that flows through the base of spectacular cliffs, creating some small waterfalls and beautiful views, is inhabited by animals less frequent and the details like the frog and freshwater crab, and licks a centuries-old oak under whose branches we will have a pleasant stay. On the plateau above the walls, benches made of limestone outcropping, took place a Mediterranean characterized by true "natural bonsai." The area also has a particular interest in archaeological and anthropological traces that attest to the presence of man from prehistoric to medieval times (and which would justify the origin of the name of the site).
few miles further downstream, after the small stream poured its waters into the river Belice, Belice is the same, in turn, which gives its waters to the sea. Our day then proceeds, after the pleasant organic lunch, with a relaxing nature walk gladdened by the sight of the sea, moving along the shoreline, at the sunny beach of dunes Insoles in a coastal environment of great natural beauty, however, very close to the mouth of the Belice. ;
a reservation is required and must be received by Friday, March 18
